Twin Lagoon is part of the ancestral domain of the indigenous Tagbanwa people, one of the oldest ethnic groups in the Philippines.

Ancestral Domain: In July 1998, the Tagbanwa tribe made history by securing a Certificate of Ancestral Domain Title (CADT), granting them official legal ownership and stewardship over Coron Island and its surrounding waters.
Cultural Preservation: For centuries, the Tagbanwa have treated the inland lakes, hidden lagoons, and surrounding seas as sacred ancestral territories. Sacred spirits are believed to inhabit these natural formations.

The Outer Lagoon: Tour boats anchor in the outer bay, where calm turquoise waters are framed by dramatic, razor-sharp karst limestone cliffs.
The Hidden Inner Lagoon: The second, secluded lagoon lies completely enclosed behind the rock face.
The Secret Passage: At low tide, visitors can swim through a narrow natural opening beneath the limestone arch to reach the inner lagoon. At high tide, when the cavity is submerged, access is made possible via a wooden staircase built over the cliff wall.
Thermocline Phenomena: Swimming between the two chambers offers a distinct sensation caused by a thermocline and halocline layer. Warm, salty ocean water mixes with cooler, fresh groundwater springs flowing from underground karst caverns, creating visible temperature shifts and shimmering visual distortion underwater.
Kayaking is allowed : This is one of the few island hopping highlights, where kayaking is allowed.
